6 tips to keep your prostate healthy

Fortunately, there is much you can do to keep your prostate healthy as you age and to stay one step ahead. It makes sense that your lifestyle, exercise habits, and diet have a tremendous impact on your prostate health. Good habits can help prevent and lower risk factors for prostate disease, such as enlarged prostate, prostatitis, prostate cancer,  just like it can for other areas of your body. If you are already experiencing prostate troubles, these natural changes can help keep these conditions from getting worse, help relieve symptoms, and even help cure or control them.

Eat colorfully

They’re probably not your favorite part of any meal, but green leafy vegetables are a good first step toward maintaining your prostate health. These vegetables are full of vitamins and antioxidants essential to your health, and more particularly to your prostate. The same is true for tomatoes, watermelons, pink grapefruits, guava and papaya containing lycopene, a powerful antioxidant.

Reduce animal fat and red meat

A diet high in fat can cause the body to produce fewer antioxidants, which are essential for maintaining a healthy prostate. It is believed that a diet rich in animal fats could cause an overproduction of pollutants (free radicals) in the body, attacking the tissues and cells of the body, thereby accelerating their aging or even their destruction. If you want to reduce the amount of animal fat, red and processed meat in your diet, you can try lean protein such as chicken, turkey or fish instead. In addition, reducing dairy products, salt, refined sugar and the products that contain it would be beneficial.

Watch your weight and do it early

Start exercising, because strenuous physical activity, such as walking, swimming, biking or jogging, can improve your prostate health. Although a cause and effect relationship between exercise and prostate health remains unconfirmed, studies to date suggest that exercise would be beneficial in keeping your prostate healthy.

Be more sexually active

Frequent use of the prostate through sexual activity may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Studies have suggested that the frequency of ejaculation, as well as exercise, leads to better prostate health.

Review your family history

Having male family members (such as a father or brother) with prostate cancer greatly increases your risk of developing it yourself. In fact, the risk is more than doubled! It is essential to inform your doctor of any family history of prostate cancer so that you can work together to set up a comprehensive prevention and screening program.

Get a blood test

A simple PSA test can help detect prostate cancer years before symptoms appear. Discuss the subject with your doctor from the age of 50. High-risk men, such as black men or men with a strong family history of prostate cancer, should start getting tested at age 45.
